Emergency Contraception

The emergency contraceptive, also known as the morning after pill, is a tablet that you take after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. It can also be suitable if regular contraception has failed or if it was not used or taken properly.

The morning after pill is available directly from the pharmacy without a prescription to those over 17 years of age subject to meeting certain criteria. This is a very discreet service that one of our pharmacists will provide for you in the privacy of our consultation room. It is available free of charge to medical card holders. A fee will be charged to non-medical card holders depending on the type of morning after pill supplied.

When considering the use of a morning after pill it is important to act quickly as the sooner it is taken after the event the more effective it will be. Morning after pills are not 100% effective as it is possible that you may have ovulated before taking it and for this reason the sooner it is taken the more likely it is to work.

If you would like to avail of this service please call into the pharmacy (no appointment necessary) or complete the consultation form below and one of our pharmacists will contact you.
